J C Cowans (b. 1993) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans fine art, poetry, film and curation. She acknowledges that we are a reflection of self and others, never just one thing, but an amalgamation of many things.

Cowans’ paintings, mainly portraiture, explore the female form and celebrate the intricacies of the holistic being. Cowans delights in the manipulation of watercolour, recognising the power of being able to see delicate layers of brushstrokes and colour. She believes the transparency of the medium is endearing and honest; a visual reflection of the multifaceted human.

Her work has been featured on Tate, Black Blossoms, The Artist’s Cove and Dazed Digital.
